Last Minute Couples Costume- Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich
I love doing themed costumes for Halloween, check out this post to see what I mean! I would pick a theme and each year I would make or buy costumes for everything in that theme. Well then my kids got older and more opinionated and I lost all control of the costumes because they wanted to go as something they wanted and not what I wanted. Well this year I decided that instead of doing a family theme, I thought it would be fun to do a couples costume, because I haven’t lost all control of my husband yet ;). I wanted to do a simple couples costume, so decided on peanut butter and jelly. It worke out perfectly for us because my husband LOVES peanut butter and I LOVE jelly! And just for fun, I added a Wonder Bread costume too, so if you wanted to, you could go as a PB&J sandwich, which would be especially cute if you have a little baby Wonder Bread!
Here is a quick video to show you the process of how I made the peanut butter and jelly costumes.
This is how I made them:
For all three costumes I used my Silhouette CAMEO and heat transfer vinyl. Before cutting out the designs, I mirrored the image and put the shiny/plastic side down onto that mat. You can get the cut files here:
For the jelly shirt, I took a plain red shirt and then I used the EasyWeed stretch HTV in the colors white, black, green apple and red.
Using my heat press, I first pressed the shirt (without the HTV) to get the moisture and wrinkles out and then I put down the white HTV and pressed it at 305 degrees for 15 seconds. You can also do this with an iron, just make sure you put enough pressure onto the shirt so that it gets a nice seal. I did each layer separately and for each layer I used a heat press cover sheet to protect the HTV.
For the peanut butter shirt, I used a plain brown shirt and then used the EasyWeed HTV in colors white, red, green and royal. I cut out the word in the background but you don’t have to do this, you can layer smooth heat transfer vinyl.
When putting the design on the shirt, I did each color separately and then I had to do each letter separately because of the way the design is, there was a little movement and the letters were completely even like in the word.
For the bread, I used a plain white shirt and then used the colors red, royal and yellow.
And that’s it for the shirts! Aren’t they so cool? I love how they turned out!
I wanted to add a little something to the costumes, so I added hats to be the lids. For the jelly I painted a red beanie to look like the Smucker’s lid.
I used white and red paint and just free handed it, I didn’t use tape or anything. It’s not perfect but good enough for me :).
For the peanut butter, I just added a red hat for the lid.
I love how this shirt turned out, my husband is going to wear it as an everyday shirt too :).
And finally the bread, I added a twist tie for it. You can put it around your head or neck, it would be super cute for a little girl, it would look like a scarf :). I used some green ribbon and then added some wire onto so that I can actually twist it.
I really like how this shirt turned out, I always wanted my mom to buy me Wonder bread when I was a kid but we didn’t get it very often, so it was always a treat when we did get it.
Here is my husband and I rocking the couples costume :). I’m so glad that I made the hats, they really add to the costumes.
And here is the peanut butter and jelly costume with my son. The twist tie on his head is my favorite! It was so much fun to make and I love how these costumes came together!
This was such a fun costume to make and I love how it turned out! I can’t wait to do more couples costumes with my husband in the future!
Here are a couple more Halloween shirts that you can wear as a couple. You can wear them just in the month of October or you can dress them up and make them into a costume, especially a witch costume. Either way, they are super fun and perfect for Halloween (and for any Princess Bride lovers!).
